What sparked your interest in community radio?
I first was introduced to HCR in 2017, I was just sitting in as a second adult for other presenters and I watched the presenters using the equipment and my dream was to do my own show, I love all types of music but I knew I wasn’t ready to run a desk and talk on the microphone, my confidence was low and I was a little shy.
How did you feel about speaking on the radio prior to the first time you were live on air?
I was extremely nervous when I sat in front of the microphone, I was not sure what to say and how to speak. I was very quiet and found it hard to put a sentence together.
How did you feel afterwards?
I was given the chance to do my own show for the first time and when it had finished I was buzzing as I had accomplished my dream which was to present a show myself. I could not wait for the next opportunity to do another show.
What positive impacts upon your life did your HCR experience have?
The radio station has given me so much more confidence, I was very quiet and knew few people before I was introduced to the station. I have met lots of new friends. I feel it gives me something to look forward to each week and I get so much of a buzz doing the show. I also feel it helps my mental health and wellbeing and I feel I have people I can talk to rather just my family.
